Skype

I have Skype on my phone but the processor isnt fast enough to run voice. Skype also sucks on the battery.

To-Do: Linux

Next on my list is to try out Fedora 7 on my laptop. This should happen this weekend while I'm in Colorado.

Currently the laptop is running Ubuntu 7.04.

Mobile Edition Messed Up

In trying to make the mobile edition of the main site fully standards complaint I messed it up.

It will still load but the CSS is not working. I have a copy frpm last night at home on the laptop and will upload it when I get home tonight.

Another WM Smartphone App

By now everyone knows about Google Maps (http://maps.google.com) and that its also available as a download for SmartPhones. Not many know that Microsoft's Live Search (http://wls.live.com) is also available as a stand alone app for WM SmartPhones.

It offers the same functionality as Google Maps. I have not had a lot of time to check out the application.

Happy F-Day

Thats right, F-Day to you!

All in all, a good fathersday so far. I called my Dad and spoke to him, wished him a happy f-day and chatted. We were close as I grew up, but we are better now. More talking about little things and nothing.

I emailed my sister to have her tell her hubby happy f-day too. He gets to work today... But gets off in plenty of time to have most of the day with them.

Incompatibles

I have learned that placing my Blackjack next to the iPod causes the iPod's volume to jump all over the pace.

Mental note: Keep the two apart when the iPod is playing.

Officers down... Why?

This topic again rears its ugly head. We are loosing far to may officers to auto accidents.

Is this a training issue or something else? One thing that is not mentioned in any of the articles I've read on the deaths about how far into shift the officers were and how many days they had been working. These would all lead to causational effects leading up to the accidents.

Anyone have any ideas?

In addition to posting mobile entries here, I now have that ability on the main site as well.
I cant say how often I'll use it there, but it is an option.

More to-do stuff

On my main site I run an ad server. I use this to serve ads for sites I like on the blog.

I also have the main site setup to allow for mobile browsing.

There is the problem. I need to take all the banners on the server and shrink them down so I can serve them on the Mobile Enhanced site while not overly impacting the speed of the page loads.

Just a small to-do.

Emoze vs. Exchange Server

I have been using emoze (www.emoze.com) for a bit to get email from my home PC. Emoze has a nifty and free client/server that you install on your Windows PC. It connects with Outlook - I am running Outlook 2007 - and sends new emails to your Windows PocketPC or SmartPhone. On your WM device you install the emoze client. All transactions are encrypted from your PC to WM or vice-versa.

You can set up emoze as a true push email app or set it up to check after XX minutes. I found that with it running as a true push it killed my battery pretty fast. It did better when I had it set to check every 15 to 30 minutes.

Additionally, it can only send emails that Outlook has recieved - meaning you are at the mercy of how often you told Outlook to check your mail. When sending with emoze set to always on, email was fast. I didnt check to see if emails sent under the timed rule were sent then or at the next check.

I, just in the past two days, setup and started using the free Mail2Web (www.mail2web.com) Exchange Server (1024mb storage - using emoze you have no limit, aside from what your PC can handle).

The plus, over emoze, is that its true push. As soon as email hits the inbox you get a copy on your device. Sending from your device is just as fast. Edit - So far I have not noticed any hit on the battery. It seems to be less battery intensive than emoze running push full time.

Both options sync email, contacts, calendar, tasks, etc. Edit - Both also allow you to setup delivery times.

I have switched to using Mail2Web as my push email service. And I am still getting my emails on my home PC.

Here is how I have my email setup -
Using GMail (www.gmail.com - now open to all with no invite needed) I setup a rule/filter to send email to my Mail2Web account. This happens as soon as the mail hits the inbox. Mail2Web then sends the email to my device.

Outlook at home is still logging into GMail and collecting ALL of my mail and downloading it. Edit - When I sync the Blackjack to my main PC it updates the contacts, calendar, etc for me.

I could setup Outlook to sync with Mail2Web, but right now I dont want to or have a need to.

I was on MAX going to work yesterday. A few seats back was a guy reading a book and laughing hysterically.
